The front side of the carpet, the side on which one walks is known as the pile of the carpet. Once the knotting of the carpet is done, it is brought down from the weaving chair. Next, the irregularity of the pile is corrected by shearing it evenly. The height of the carpet differs as per its origin and type. For example, the nomadic carpets are highly sheared while the regular ones have middle to thick height pile. On the other hand, high-quality carpets with very fine knotting have a relatively lower height pile.
The condition of the pile of an old, used or flat carpet doesn’t influence its value. Determining the value of the antique and rare carpets requires completely different criteria. The evaluation of these piles is decided differently so that the museum ones acquire higher prices.
